Audrey Kepler inherits an abandoned homestead in rural Queensland and a chance to make a fresh start.
In the dusty back room she discovers the photo of a handsome WWII medic, Samuel Riordan, the former occupant. She soon finds herself becoming obsessed with him. Audrey digs deeper and discovers he was accused of the bashing death of a young woman on his return from the war.
Unexplained deaths in recent years – one of them a young woman with injuries echoing those of the first victim – leave Audrey to suspect that the killer is still very much alive.
